Google Maps

Navigation and local search

Google Maps is a travel and local discovery app for finding places, planning routes and navigating around town or across longer journeys. It suits drivers, walkers, cyclists, public transport users and anyone comparing nearby shops, restaurants, services or attractions. Search results combine map locations with business details, user ratings and practical information to help you decide where to go.

Routes for different kinds of travel

The app provides turn-by-turn directions for driving, walking and cycling, along with public transport route planning where local data is available. Driving guidance can respond to traffic conditions and incidents, while public transport views can show available bus and train connections. You can also save map areas for use when a data connection is unavailable, which is useful when travelling through areas with weak coverage.

Explore places before you arrive

Street View and other visual map features let you inspect roads, entrances and surrounding areas before setting out. Place pages can include opening information, photos, reviews, busy-period indicators and contact details, although the information available varies by location and business. Google Maps also supports searching by categories such as food, shopping and fuel, making it useful for both planned trips and quick nearby searches.
