Google Chat

Team messaging for Google Workspace

Google Chat is a business communication app for direct messages, group discussions and shared team spaces. It suits people who already work with Google Workspace and want conversations connected to tools such as Gmail, Drive and Docs. Files, documents and related work can be discussed without moving the entire conversation to another service.

Useful for everyday collaboration

The app separates one-to-one conversations from broader team discussions in Spaces, making it easier to keep project topics together. Workspace integrations support sharing and working with Google files inside conversations. Google Chat also supports connections with services such as Jira, GitHub and PagerDuty, which can help teams bring updates from other work tools into their discussions.

• Direct messages and Spaces: Keep private chats and group work in separate areas.
• Google integration: Connect conversations with Gmail, Drive and Docs.
• AI-assisted tools: Gemini features can help with conversation summaries and finding information in chat history, where available.
• Multilingual communication: Translation support is available for more than 120 languages.

Who should consider it

Google Chat is a practical choice for businesses, project groups and distributed teams that already rely on Google’s productivity tools. It is less focused on casual messaging than a consumer chat app, and its value depends largely on how closely your team’s work is tied to Workspace. Teams using many connected services may also need to manage a busier stream of updates and notifications.
